Permanent Infrastructure with No Room for Mobility
Major utility providers like Ellevio face grid vulnerabilities and potential power blackouts during routine maintenance windows or complex network reconfigurations. Traditional earthing and voltage control reactor stations are massive, and stationary structures, meaning critical safety assets are fixed in place and unavailable where short-term assistance is most urgently needed.
Ellevio required a high-capacity, high-mobility solution. However, building an asset that is heavy enough to provide stationary-grade electrical protection but durable enough to be frequently hauled across different rugged substation sites was a significant engineering challenge.
Solving the Mobility vs. Rigidity Paradox with SteelFLEX
Harju Elekter reimagined its field-proven stationary architecture to create a custom mobile earthing reactor station. The primary breakthrough lay in solving the “Mobility vs. Rigidity” paradox. Our internal design and structural engineering teams collaborated intensely to re-engineer the frame of the 9-tonne SteelFLEX shell.
We optimised the weight-to-strength ratios and integrated highly advanced heavy-lifting configurations. This structural optimisation ensures the unit easily absorbs the continuous dynamic mechanical stresses of road transit and cranes, all while preserving the maximum environmental protection of a stationary concrete-class installation.
A Mobile Grid Asset That Eliminates Permanent Infrastructure Costs
Ellevio received a fully certified, high-strength “plug-and-play” asset that can be rapidly towed and deployed wherever their network requires localised grounding control.
By eliminating the necessity of building expensive, permanent concrete-base infrastructure at every individual node, the client achieved a saving in capital expenditure and minimised operational grid downtime during field repairs.
