High-Density Multi-Transformer Power in an Architecturally Regulated Urban District
The rapidly growing district of Veddesta, northwest of Stockholm, was experiencing soaring energy demands that required a high-capacity grid connection.
E.ON needed to deliver massive localised power using three separate 1000 kVA transformers. However, traditional brick-and-mortar substation construction would cause extensive on-site installation delays and disrupt urban development.
Furthermore, local municipality zoning laws enforced strict architectural guidelines, requiring the infrastructure to visually blend into the modern urban landscape. E.ON faced the complex challenge of squeezing a high-density, multi-transformer substation into a compact footprint without risking component overheating or failing local aesthetic approvals.
Custom E-House with Curved Roof and Optimised Thermal Design
Harju Elekter engineered and manufactured a fully customised, turnkey E-house substation at our Västerås facility. To solve the structural challenge, our design and production teams closely collaborated to maximise internal layout efficiency, packing all three transformer bays, the ABB MV switchgear, and the HECON LV switchgear into a single compact enclosure.
To address the thermal load of three active transformers, we integrated advanced cooling pathways within the structure. Finally, we broke away from traditional box-like utility designs by engineering a custom curved roof that perfectly matched Veddesta’s architectural master plan, ensuring the high-performance unit was visually indistinguishable from standard city infrastructure.
On-Schedule Urban Energisation with a Single Plug-and-Play Asset
E.ON successfully energised the expanding Veddesta district on schedule, utilising a single 18-tonne “plug-and-play” asset that was fully factory-tested before delivery. By choosing a prefabricated E-house over on-site construction, the client achieved a massive saving in deployment time and minimised local labour costs.
