Challenge

Multi-Vendor Complexity and Field-Assembly Risks for a BESS Hub

Deploying utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for grid ancillary services requires linking highly sensitive battery arrays to the main power grid. Stella Futura needed a specialised hub to house the critical medium-voltage switchgear, low-voltage panels, auxiliary transformers, and control networks.

Building this infrastructure on-site means managing a logistical nightmare: coordinating hardware from multiple separate suppliers, dealing with weather-related installation delays, and risking prolonged grid connection downtime. If any component interface was mismatched during field wiring, the entire battery storage facility would face expensive project delays and missed revenue from grid stabilisation services.

Solution

Full Factory Integration and Multi-Vendor Compatibility Testing

Harju Elekter developed a fully equipped, modular prefabricated E-house substation. The core differentiator of our approach was eliminating field-assembly risks through advanced factory integration. Our engineering teams utilised a sophisticated modular layout to organise and mount diverse hardware from multiple suppliers within a compact, high-protection enclosure (15 tonnes).

Crucially, we routed all system interfaces and conducted comprehensive, multi-vendor compatibility and functionality tests entirely inside our own factory walls before shipping, ensuring the unit achieved an EI60 fire rating and C4 corrosion protection.

Result

Battery Storage Online Faster with Sharply Compressed Commissioning

Stella Futura successfully brought their battery energy storage asset online in central Sweden with minimal on-site installation work and sharply compressed commissioning timelines. By delivering a fully certified, factory-tested “plug-and-play” E-house, Harju Elekter saved the client considerable field-engineering overhead and significantly sped up their time-to-market.
