Meeting Ambitious Scale-Up Targets with New Green Standards
As part of a long-term initiative to replace old overhead lines with weatherproof underground cables, Finland’s leading utility provider, Elenia, needed high-capacity (1000 kVA) compact substations.
However, modern environmental expectations demanded a strict shift to SF6-free medium-voltage equipment, which alters the standard layout and footprint. Elenia needed a certified, highly reliable partner capable of scaling up production rapidly to hit their ambitious rollout targets.
Brand-New M-Configuration and Fast-Track Type-Testing
Harju Elekter designed a brand-new M-configuration variant of our compact substation: the HEKA1VM1000-8. Our internal engineering teams collaborated seamlessly to design an optimised sheet metal enclosure that houses a large 1000 kVA transformer, a highly efficient integrated low-voltage solution, and up to 5 bays of eco-friendly, SF6-free RMU switchgear.
Recognising that time was critical to secure the partnership, we fast-tracked the development and successfully passed full, rigorous Internal Arc type-testing according to the IEC 62271-202 standard.
100 Units Per Year and a Landmark Nordic Partnership
By proving our rapid engineering agility and technical compliance, Harju Elekter successfully signed a landmark agreement to supply 100 units per year to one of Finland’s premier utility players.
The newly certified HEKA M substations provide Elenia with a scalable, environmentally sustainable “plug-and-play” asset. This directly accelerates their goal of achieving a 90% weatherproof underground grid by 2036, significantly boosting our market reputation and cementing Harju Elekter as a top-tier infrastructure partner in the Nordic region.
